The development
of a new segment

There are several types of solar energy: photovoltaics, passive and thermal. The Avignonet-Lauragais solar power site uses photovoltaic solar energy that converts photons from the sun into power through the physical properties of semiconductor materials. To harness this energy, we use solar panels made up of photovoltaic cells, electronic devices that convert the energy of light into electricity. The resulting power can be converted into alternating current and transmitted over the network or stored on a reserve battery.  Currently, there is an estimated 100 GW of solar power installed globally. We are committed to refrain from site alterations and to restoring property to the same condition as when operations began.

This type of energy production has many positive environmental impacts:

  • Contains technological elements that can be produced from recycled materials;
  • Reduces greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Has no impact on surrounding ecosystems;
  • Is silent; and
  • Has little or no impact on the landscape.

Some facts about photovoltaic solar power:

  • Photovoltaic installations have a lifespan of over 20 years, and for some manufacturers, the lifetime warranty can extend up to 25 years.
  • In 2007, major European manufacturers founded PV CYCLE, an association whose mission is to implement and provide structured photovoltaic module collection, recycling and waste services. PV CYCLE has a collection target of 85% of all end-of-life PV modules by 2015.
